Urban Risk Reduction Project (URR Project)

 

IEC and Awareness Programme on Urban Risk Reduction:

         a. Two type of pamphlets have been prepared for awareness generation on i. City disaster management planning & ii. Community Preparedness. These pamphlets are being used all across district for awareness on urban risk reduction and importance of community preparedness in Dhanbad.

b. A Guideline “School Safety Plan for Safe Learning Environment” developed for schools and has been circulated with schools for preparation of School Safety Plan.      

 

c. Awareness Programme on International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction

United Nations has declared 13th October 2011 as International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. On this auspicious occasion, an awareness programme was organized by the District Administration, Dhanbad in one of the most hazardous coal mining location, Putki. The area has huge coverage of coal mining comprising both open cast mining and underground      

mining and is highly affected by land subsidence and underground fire problem. The programme was attended by as many as 65 participants consisting community leaders, volunteers, disaster management committee members, media persons & common mass including women from municipal ward no. 8, 9 and 10. The objective of the programme was to sensitize the common mass and orient the identified local community volunteers on the issue of risk reduction and preparedness for disasters like earthquake, land subsidence, fire, etc.

d. Competition among school children on natural and manmade hazards and school safety

On occasion of Independence day, painting and speech competition on Disaster Management organized for students from different schools of Dhanbad district on 13th Aug’2011 at Indoor Stadium, Dhanbad. Around 600 students participated in this event and around 1500 parents & teachers took part in the event.
